Notice Of Right To Have Exemptions Designated Nc

Card image cap

I was served a letter from a credit collections company by the police through my mother for a notice of right to have exemptions designated. I'm in North Carolina.

I received a letter that was again served to my mother for me stating something about going to court with this debtor, however there was never a court date listed on the letter. I attempted to look up everything I could to find a court date and I couldn't find anything.

This credit management company purchased my debt from a credit card company I owed back during COVID when I got sick and couldn't work. They refused to work with me on the payments and I got delinquent. The debt got overwhelming and i never paid it. I understand I was irresponsible but I'm poor and made bad decisions.

Now I'm faced with this. Idk what to do. I have been terrified and avoiding it because I have extreme anxiety. I don't have a lot of money to hire a lawyer, but when I looked on the legal aid website I believe you can't qualify for free aid unless you're very poor. I make ok money "on paper", but I'm "poor" in the sense that money has to go to keeping my other bills such as rent, car note, power, phone bill, health insurance, food, ect in good standing so this doesn't happen more. It's just my son and me and I'm the sole provider for us with no help.

I feel sick and stuck. Idk what to do or how to fix this. I'm sitting here about to throw up because I'm looking at this paper and I'm so confused by it. I don't understand it a bit. Also the thought of having to go to court against this debt collector and represent myself makes me want to die.

Can anyone give me so help or advice for this please?
