Officer Arrested Me Then Refused To Give Me The Citation? Is That Weird/wrong? What Can I Do To Track It Down So I Don't Miss A Court Date And Get Arrested?
I was arrested in Vermont for a false DUI 2 1/2 months ago by a state trooper. And without going into detail, I wasn't under the influence of anything. Had an evidentiary blood draw. I was given a court date, but that court date was initially cancelled. Public defender didn't think it would be prosecuted.
Then during a separate incident, this trooper was on scene when I was being transported to a hospital. He said he had a citation for me, that I'm assuming is in relation to the DUI arrest and I'm assuming, originally they cancelled the court date because the lab results weren't back yet. I asked for the citation, he would not give it to me or leave it with the hospital. I don't know why.
I have not found anything online. Checked court calenders, although those can be hard to fish through. Called local public defenders office because that's all I can afford. They said they wouldn't know until the day of the hearing. Called court. They said the same thing as the public defender and suggested I call the police department directly. Called police department. They couldn't find anything and said they would send an email to the trooper. I had also left a voicemail for this trooper a few weeks ago, and he never responded. So I'm guessing I won't get any response or any helpful response.
The last thing I want is a warrant out for my arrest and to spend another night in jail. What can I do to try to see if I'm pending charges and have an upcoming court date? Aside from checking the court calendar which is updated multiple times a day and not actually very accurate. And is this bizarre for him to refuse to give it to me? Is there any legit reason he could have or he could claim as to why he refused to give it to me? Like my potential fragile medical/mental state? (Which wasn't that bad considering I was coherently asking for the citation.) is it illegal for him to refuse to give me the citation at the first opportunity when he had it?
