Parents Stole Documents

Card image cap

Update : sorry my state is Texas ( htx)

I’m reaching out because I’m in a really tough situation and could use some advice. I’m 19, and recently my parents took my important personal documents—things like my social security card, and other vital records—and are refusing to give them back to me. I’ve only been able to replace my birth certificate so far, but without the other documents, it’s been extremely hard to do anything like get an ID, drivers license, from applying for jobs to handling personal matters.

Since I don’t have any proof of ownership for the other documents, it’s become nearly impossible to replace them. I’ve tried talking to my parents, but they aren’t willing to return them. I really just need some legal advice at this point. I’m unsure of where to go from here and would really appreciate any guidance, especially if someone has been through something similar. It’s hard to replace the Social Security card because the birth certificate isn’t enough proof, even though I know the number.

Thank you in advance for your help or suggestions.
