Parents Tell Sitter To Leave After Kids Are Asleep

Card image cap

25 yo was babysitting 2 kids (3&6) 5-10 pm. The parents were out on a date. At 10:15 she texted them and they said it was fine for her to leave the kids alone as they never woke up once they were asleep, they had cameras and had neighbors they trusted if there was a problem (who were presumably asleep but they could call). They stated they’d be back in an hour or so and she could go. She responded she wasn’t comfortable with leaving them and the parents insisted she go.

This is nuts, right? There’s no law in our state about leaving kids alone although it’s ’suggested to not leave children under 12’. If she left and something happened, would she have any liability?

Updated to add: I’m curious if there’s legal liability so my daughter can cite whatever it is if this ever comes up again.
