Parents Want Brother And I To Be Coborrowers On Their New Mortgage

Card image cap

My parents are applying for a super jumbo mortgage, which at this time they cannot qualify for on their own due to the bank not counting a propery tax adjustment that will happen, additional social security income, and another business they run that brings in more income, which in told will all be counted once 2024 ends and tax returns are submitted.

My question is, if my brother and I do agree to do this and my parents are unable to qualify to refinance to have us removed next year (when the new income streams will be counted) do ee have any rights at all to force our parents to sell the home so they don't miss payemnts or default and make us take on that debt?

We both would like to be removed off of the mortgage ASAP and are worried that our parents won't be able to equality and will refuse to sell the house to get us removed from that debt.

Any legal advice here? What can I do to protect myself if i decide to do it? Can I have them sign a contract with my conditions? Is that enough?
