Paycheck Bounced
(Montana) So I'm working for a corporate franchise. Started there three weeks ago. After working the first week I didn't receive a paycheck, I contacted payroll and they told me that as I had started so late in the pay period I would not be getting one until the next pay period.
Okay, makes sense I guess. I keep working. Well my check shows up, I cash it, funds clear. As I have been working for three weeks with no check at this point it immediately goes into bills, groceries, expenses etc. it was gone by the end of the day but hey, at least now I'm caught up on everything.
Three days later my phone pings and my account is over drafted to the amount of my entire check and there is an automated notice telling me that the check bounced. Furthermore, every single employee at our location had their paychecks bounce too.
We contacted the owner, who assured us that they would be coming by tomorrow to give us cash out of pocket to cover the difference.
Wtf is going on here? Isn't that check fraud? Are they embezzling payroll? Is there some agency I should report this to? Contact corporate? I'm not really sure what to even make of this or even how to proceed.
