Permanently Disabled - How Do I Pitch This?

Card image cap

I am in Michigan, USA. Last year I was hospitalized for an issue with my diabetes (Type 1, had it for 31 years). I had never had an issue prior to this. I went into the hospital with high blood sugar. I woke up 13 days later and my leg didn't work. I found out later that I kept swinging it over the side of the bed, and the hospital noted that, did nothing about it, and now I have severe and permanent damage to that leg.

Additionally, I was sent to in-patient therapy at the same place, and they messed me up so bad it took months to fully recover from that. I was sobbing and vomiting in pain; they told me that they "had to check everything off the checklist" and made me continue.

My main question is: How do I pitch this case to a lawyer? I know medical cases are difficult, but I have documented notes and proof of everything. I have many witnesses. What can I say that will make a lawyer interested in the case?

I was a healthy, active person who loved hiking and walking my dogs. Now I need a walker and can't go more than a few feet before collapsing in pain. I'm not looking for an admission of guilt (I know they wouldn't do that and it means nothing anyway). I'm not looking for a forced, insincere apology. I want restitution. I missed months of work, and I can't do one of my part-time gigs anymore at all. Please help, I just need to get my foot in the door. Please and thank you so much!
