Physically Assaulted While At Work By Customer
Hi all, I was unfortunately physically assaulted while I was at work the other day. I work as a keyholder for a large chain retailer and long story short, a group of 3 older women didn’t like how I helped them and they thought I had a bad attitude. One of the women threatened to drag me by my hair, so then I called security to our store (I work in a mall). I guess that set one of them off because as I was turned around assisting different customers she came up behind me and grabbed my by my hair, hit my head off the register and threw me on the floor. I’m okay physically besides being a bit bruised and sore, but the women left immediately after so security and police have yet to find them. The altercation is all on video and there were multiple witnesses, but I just want to know what my options are besides pressing charges if they even end up finding her. My boss had mentioned something about work opening up an investigation or something about it and multiple people are telling me I should apply for workers comp but I’m so lost in what to do after all of this. Im a college student making 75¢ above the minimum wage in my state so if I could get any sort of extra compensation for this that would be great. Just wondering what my options are, if any. Thanks! Edit: By older I mean late 30’s to late 40’s. I’m a 24f who is pretty petite and short, assuming that’s what makes me an easy target as this is the 4th time I’ve been physically assaulted by customers at a retail job????
