Previous Homeowner Won’t Transfer Solar Panels.

Hey everyone, In November of 2024 I purchased a home in Texas that came with solar panels through Sunnova energy.

Prior to closing the seller asked for a letter stating I will assume the loan for the solar panels. I wrote the letter and included that the solar panel transfer will be completed within 2 weeks of closing and that I will have full rights to claim the tax credit ~$17k in 2024’s taxes. Both parties signed and agreed.

Come to find out a week after closing, the previous owner was behind a couple months on payment to Sunnova and they turned off the solar panels (no idea they could do that). With the past due balance of ~$1k, Sunnova can’t transfer the panels to me until the balance is paid off.

Right now we have a house with solar panels we can’t use. I’ve reached out to the seller, and he isn’t paying it. I’ve emailed his agent and broker and received no response.

Any advice?
