Property Lien After Helene

Card image cap

Hey all,

My area was hit pretty hard by hurricane Helene a few months back. I had some trees on my house and structures. My insurance hired a 3rd party consulting agency to schedule the tree removal from the house and structures. Tree crew comes, removes the trees, everyone is happy.

Until I opened a certified letter on New Year's Eve from the tree company - they're placing a lien on my property for the unpaid bill. This Tree company has never sent me a bill, no past- due notice, no communication whatsoever. Until the Lien notice. I had assumed it was all paid out through my insurance as I was told multiple times that this service was covered.

I have already forwarded the documents to my insurance. What other steps should I take to protect myself and my property? Do I need a lawyer? Can they really take my house?

Any help is appreciated! And Happy New Year!
