Questions About Child Abandonment

I (17 male) and my little brother (12 male) have been living with our own friends since September of 2024. We've been having to do so because of my mother's addictions and inability to be responsible for her children. There has been little to no contact between us, my mother only talking to me specifically if one of us needs or wants something from the other, some weeks with nothing being said at all. My mother got us evicted with the inability to pay bills on time although she "borrowed" 800 dollars from my grandfather for rent just a week before the eviction notice was posted, and has said she is working on getting her own car and house since November, but has had ample opportunities to do so, and still somehow she's constantly "broke" and now has been unemployed for months. We have been out of my mother's care for 5 months now, and I genuinely do not feel comfortable going back to living with her as she's threatened to pull me out of the house I'm in currently and unenroll me from school just 2 months before I graduate high school whenever I've tried to be brutally honest with her about how things are going and how they affect me and my brother. My friends mother has told me she has my side on it, and won't allow my mother to come and get me from their house, and I plan on informing my school about the situation as well. I just have a few questions on if this can be considered child abandonment in Texas or not. Sure, she has had the intent to eventually get us back and living together, but like I've said before, she has had multiple chances to since November and never followed through, and I don't want to go back to living with her.
