Quitting A Job— Can I Avoid The Penalty Fee?

Card image cap

I work in TV. I am about a month into my new position (two-year contract) and I hate it. I've had lawyer friends look over my contract and they call it "predatory." Basically, I would like to quit in about six months. In my contract, it says that if I resign before the two years (ending in fall 2026), the liquidated damages will be more than $16,000.

BUT my lawyer friends say this is a predatory non-compete and that the NLRB would side with me because "essentially" forcing me to stay with them.

Do I stand a good chance of not having to buy it out? Please help. This job is killing me and my personality. I don't like it anymore and I feel miserable.

TiA!
