Raging Coworker Claims “assault And Battery” On Other Coworker

On Thursday, I hear a raised voice and the start of an argument from the hall across from my office. By the time I make it out of my office to investigate, one of my coworkers (we’ll call her R) is already shouting “assault” into the other coworker’s (O) face.

Some context: R started working at our company a little over a year ago. From the day she started, she has been standoffish and there have been a number of little incidents that have led up to this point. She does NOT like me or O, and treats O especially bad for no reason. There have been plenty of witnesses to the way she raises her voice when responding to a request from O and the sort of attitude that O has to endure with her. At one of our meetings to discuss a complaint R had lodged against me, she says with her own words “The only person in this office who can claim I treat her badly is O” as a defense against me. My boss heard this, and did nothing.

Fast forward up to this point and R has once again responded with an attitude to a simple request from O (she needed an email shared with her). Hours later, no email. O gets out of her seat and walks to R’s closed office to request the email once more. Once the door has been opened and they’re facing one another, R immediately responds with an aggressive tone, telling her she’ll basically send it when she sends it (I hear this part but don’t see it) and she has too much to do in the meantime. She goes to slam the door and O puts an arm out to stop it, because she’s not done talking. R responds by shouting that she slammed the door into her body and that that is physical assault. I don’t see any of this, but I do see the rest. R is shouting like a madwoman that it’s nobody’s right to touch her and that she’s assaulting her. Ridiculous. I don’t believe for a second that she actually hit her with the door, but even if she did, how can that be physical assault?

A few moments later she comes to me and requests a written report because she is “going to call the police and press charges”. My coworker has a legal work permit, but under this administration, she’s scared.

My question is: do the police accept reports of this nature? Will she actually be able to press charges against O? Is that going to threaten her citizenship process?

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
