Recently Let Go From My Job. Former Employer Won't Give Me A Copy Of The Non-compete I Signed

A few weeks ago, my employer of 1 year let me go from my job. It is a marketing agency, and upon being hired, I unfortunately signed an employee handbook with a non-compete. I was never given the employee handbook after signing. Last week, I sent my former employer an email requesting a digital copy of the non-compete agreement I signed, but it has been radio silence on their end. I am currently applying for jobs. I don't remember what I signed, and seemingly they are unwilling to tell me. How do I proceed with applying for jobs, without them coming for me and suing me if I slip up and take a job with a "competitor?"
