Resident Of The Same Building Keeps Stealing Mail Packages

Card image cap

Hello, writing this before me and my roommate go to talk to our building management.

My roommate shops online a lot, and packages that are too large to fit in any of the lockers usually get left on the floor in the mail room which does not have a door or camera AFAIK. She has had two major packages get stolen in the past two months — some computer parts and a box full of extremely niche collectors items. Other residents have mentioned their stuff being stolen. Management has said they would look into it/try to help but have only put up signs telling couriers not to leave packages out on the floor. Roommate has also filed a police report. The shipment of collectibles alone was about $1000.

Roommate found ALL the items from the collectibles shipment on a FB marketplace listing. The flooring in the photos is the exact same as in the flooring in our apartment. There is also definitive proof that the items were from her shipment. She used a third party to collect the items then ship so they all have that barcode which is visible on the listing. The FB account also has an incredibly large amount of items listed for sale, all in there wrapping and brand new. It’s very obvious that the thief did not buy them, they are so hyperspecific (think a disney princess banner with “Happy Birthday!” on it) to certain interests or hobbies.

Anyways, what should our plan be? Right now it’s building management (to try to confirm this person is a resident/get her apt #) -> police to file another report. Roommate’s biggest want in this whole fiasco is to get her items back.

Located in Atlanta.
