Roommate Moved Out And Left Her Stuff, Was Supposed To Pay Storage And Hasn't, And Won't Come Get Her Things

I'm in Virginia. A couple of years ago a friend of mine needed a place to stay and I had extra space, so she moved in, just a handshake agreement. No lease or anything. She stayed a year and then was going to move out, but she had to put her things into storage, so I suggested she just leave them with me and pay what she would've paid the storage place. She agreed. (No contract or even any set amount was agreed upon, she's always been fair in paying her bills so I wasn't worried about it.) She paid for a couple of months and then stopped paying. That was over a year ago. I've asked her several times - at least three or four - to either pay for the space or get her stuff out, but she keeps blowing me off. It's been over a year since she left her stuff here. Last time we talked about it I told her I wanted her to have her stuff out by 3/31, but she's made no move to do that. What is my legal responsibility and when do I just have it hauled away by the junk guy? It's a nice king size bed, some clothes, some furniture, that kind of thing. Definitely not something she'd want thrown out, but she's making no effort to get it or pay for the space. I understand I screwed up by not getting everything in writing, but I was honestly trying to help a friend and make some money in the process.
