Roommate Said He’s Leaving On The First, But Stuff Is Still Here
So I have a roommate that's been living with me for over a year. He rents a room and he pays less than half the rent while I pay for over half plus the utilities. My child and I share the other room and have more space, hence the higher rent. But my roommate kept telling me that he would pay the rent all month for February, but he never did. I gave him a three day notice on the 27th and he told me that he would be leaving by the first. I also told him that I had found a new place and that we would be leaving, so he's aware. It is now the second and his stuff is still here. He won't answer my phone calls or texts. I've already paid for our rent for this month as well and can't afford the two months worth of rent for the eviction on top of court fees. I finally found a place where I can sleep in the living room and my child can have their own bedroom because they're getting into the age of where they'll be going through puberty and they definitely need their own space. I feel trapped. What can I do? They're not on the lease. When I told my property manager that I had a roommate and if I should renew the lease, they told me not to worry about it and just keep it the same with just my name on it.
