Roommate Secretly Recorded Me With Ring Camera For Six Months

Card image cap

I am in Oklahoma.

My roommate has been secretly recording me for the past six months with a Ring camera in our shared house.

Initially, I asked her if the camera could record video or audio, and she assured me that it could only provide live footage since she didn’t have a subscription.

However, in October, she still insisted she didn’t have a subscription.

Recently, she admitted via text that she has had a subscription all along and can review recorded footage.

She’s also used the footage to monitor me, saying she “knows who comes in and out of the house” after a disagreement about cleanliness.

I am especially concerned because Ring cameras record audio as well, meaning my conversations could have been recorded without my consent, and I understand the doorbell is on our porch, but it appears I was she was purposely deceitful.

I spoke with my landlord, and they advised me to file a police report, as this isn’t specifically covered in our lease.

I’ve tried confronting her, but she’s been dishonest and dismissive about the issue.

I’m wondering if I have a case for invasion of privacy or any other legal claims.

Should I file a police report? If so, what can I expect from that process?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!
