Sc - Neighbor’s Backyard Chickens Continually Ending Up In My Yard
SC, Charleston County
One of my neighbors has backyard chickens that aren’t appropriately cooped and keep ending up in my backyard. This is happening on nearly a daily basis now, and they’re wrecking havoc on my garden beds.
Those neighbors are aware this is happening but still have yet to do anything about it. We do a wire fence between our properties (4 or 5 ft high) so there could be a hole or the chickens might be hopping the fence, I’m not sure. But either way, I’m pretty sure city ordinances would say you need to keep your animals secured and on your property.
Right now, I’ve had to chase down the chickens and return them next door each time because I don’t want to give my neighbor free rein in my backyard. Really didn’t want to escalate, but it might be necessary since my neighbor is dragging their feet on addressing this.
I’m waiting on a call back from Animal Control after the holidays. What are some other options? Should I be documenting/formalizing these complaints some other way?
