Seeking Legal Advice For Abusive Relationship And Shared Vehicle Ownership
Hi, I’m seeking legal advice regarding a situation involving an abusive ex-partner. My mom was in a toxic and manipulative relationship for several years. During that time, her ex used emotional abuse, including threats of self-harm, to manipulate her into adding his name to the title of a vehicle she purchased with her own inheritance money. Originally, the vehicle was solely in her name, but after they reconciled briefly, he coerced her into changing it to joint ownership.
The ex has since stolen the vehicle, leaving her without transportation for work and piling financial stress on her. He is also making false accusations of abuse against her, even though she has only ever defended herself from his violent outbursts (we have evidence of property damage he caused).
What are her legal options to:
- Reclaim the vehicle when it’s under joint ownership?
- Protect herself against his false accusations?
- Protect herself against his blackmail?
- Hold him accountable for his actions?
Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated!
