Seeking Legal Advice For Negligence In Veterinary Care In Northern California (bodega Bay).

I'm reaching out for legal advice regarding a troubling situation with my dog, Mr. White, and the veterinary care he received.
On January 14, 2025 I brought Mr. White in for a routine teeth cleaning, which ended up being a traumatic experience. The vet extracted three teeth, including a large canine, without prior discussion. After the procedure, there was excessive bleeding that lasted over 5 days. I took Mr. White back to the vet two days after the dental surgery, they gave him a a shot of narcotics for pain and force fed him because he could not eat. When I picked up Mr. White, he was more sick than before.
Unfortunately, Mr. White's condition worsened; he began to have blood in his stool, and I took Mr. White back on Monday January 20, 2025. They mentioned he might be allergic to the narcotics and switched him to Rymadil, which, as I later learned, should not have ever been prescribed given his elevated BUN kidney markers (77)from the blood work the vet did. His health continued to decline, leading me to an emergency vet, where he was hospitalized for three days at a cost of nearly $8000.
The emergency vet informed me that the prescription of Rymadil likely caused Mr. White's kidney failure. And that he should never have been prescribed Rymadil. Additionally, there is now a hole in his jaw from the extraction, and the bone is exposed. The emergency vet noted that she’s never seen a tooth extraction where there’s a gaping hole and the bone is exposed. As well as the tech vet that was taking care of Mr. White, had worked for the dental department and said she’s never seen anything like that before. He has developed a droopy jaw as a result.
I’ve incurred over $10,000 in vet bills ($8,000 for the emergency vet and $2,000 for the dental surgery and two follow appointments). I anticipate further costs for blood panels due to his ongoing kidney health issues now.
I'm devastated by this experience and want to know my options. What recourse do I have for the negligence in care and the financial burden? If you’ve been in a similar situation or have any advice, I would greatly appreciate your input.Thank you for your help.
