Settling A Small Estate - Indiana

Card image cap

Hello all,

My father passed recently on 12/31/24 and died intestate. It has more or less fallen on me to manage his final affairs. His estate was VERY small. The owners of his apartment auctioned off most of his furniture, which was worth almost nothing due to animal contamination. I have sold the few things of value that I could and gotten the money from his bank account using the small estate affidavit. After funeral fees I have approximately 900 dollars left that came from his money.

He has many more debts than this, and they are to multiple different creditors. Where do I go from here? I can't satisfy nearly all of these debts but I want to minimize the risk to myself. Even getting with a lawyer seems kind of pointless as most fees will almost certainly exceed that 900 dollar mark. Basically I'm at a loss. Can anyone advise me? Or give me a direction I can look into to research.
