Shock Collar On My Dog

Just moved to a new city (Southern California) and needed to find a new Day Care/Boarder for my dog. We found one that was family operated in a private home but appeared to be an established business, with a well made website and 4.9 stars on Google (400+ reviews).

I picked him up today and they said he was great, well behaved and no issues. On the drive home, I started to give him scratches around his neck and felt something odd- it was a shock collar that they put on him and must have taken off because it was hidden in his full coat of fur.

I’m furious. There was no mention of use of shock collars on their website, or in any of my communication with the day care before dropping him off. We were asked to provide vaccine records but that’s all- didn’t even sign any intake forms (which I thought was very strange) so there was nothing I signed stating they can use this on him.

What is the legal recourse for something like this? I would not have allowed this had they asked and they wouldn’t have told me had they not forgotten to remove the collar. I haven’t contacted them yet.
