Should An Independent Contractor Form An Llc Or Corporation?
Hello, I’ve recently accepted a role as an independent consultant/contractor (1099) with a SaaS company in the US. I’m going to be overseeing risk as it pertains to payments in the building and construction services industry.
While the role is perfect for my experience, this is my first time as a contractor or non w2 worker. I mentioned this new role to a friend and they asked me if I planned to setup an LLC or corporation. I had not considered this but I could see the benefits of having it in terms of liability should anything go horribly wrong but need advice from you all.
My question is somewhat broad, what advice or recommendations would give to someone in my situation. The role is remote/home office, I am being provided a computer. The contract ends before 2026 but if all goes well, I’ll likely have the opportunity for permanent employment there.
Do I need a corp/LLC or can I continue as myself? Any other thoughts? I really appreciate any and all assistance! Apologies if this is a stupid question but Google searches left me feeling unsure.
