Small Claims Question In Washington State
So just before Christmas 2024 I bought a van to use for work off Facebook marketplace.
The seller and I conversed back and fourth quite a bit and I have all of it backed up. I asked him point blank if it had any issues I'd need to deal with, he said no, just needs an oil change. (I KNOW I SHOULD'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT, BUT HERE, DEALERS AND MECHANICS ARE CHARGING $400-500 FOR PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION NOW, AND I WAS RUNNING OUT OF MONEY).
Fast forward, the day after I bought it, it has a grinding sound on the passenger front wheel.
He brought it down to me in Oregon, he says he drove it here, but I have video proof that he brought it on a trailer, why would he lie? I'll tell you why. It's because he sold me a busted vehicle, which he knew needed $1800 worth of work to be road safe. The van has been sitting since Christmas and unsafe to drive, which is what a mobile mechanic relayed to me and verified it was in fact the wheel bearings and tie rods.
I found the estimate the seller had received 6 months prior in Washington for repair of the right front wheel bearings and tie rods, totalling $1880. It was in the glove box.
I text him and asked him why he lied, then I got mad and said something which had the police calling me. He flat out lied some more which is why I lost my cool and for a brief moment, made a bad decision.
He thinks he's in the clear, but I am going to sue him. I have his address, phone number, name and those of his parents.
Can I sue for the price of the vehicle and loss of pay/work as well?
I have been down this road before and won so I'm not asking if I'll win I'm asking how much can I sue him for?
