Social Security Declared Me Dead In 2022.

I found out (the first time) when my credit card company called inquiring if I died. I call Social Security and thought it was fixed. About a year later, I got a letter from my utility company inquiring who would be making utility payments because I was deceased. This time I went to Social Security and spoke with a supervisor. They provided me with a letter (that I gave to my utility company) and assured me that they would correct the error in their system. They would push out some kind of message that I was not deceased.

They declared me deceased by mixing up my social security number with my mother’s (who died on February 24, 2021). The doctor (if you can call him that), messed up my mother’s death certificate-wrong cause of death, wrong place of birth, date of death he put was December 15, 2020. Social Security got involved because of the wrong date of death ( they took money out of my mother’s account due to the wrong date of death on her death certificate. So I spent 18-months trying to get the idiot doctor to correct the death certificate to give to Social Security. Somehow, they mixed up my social security number with my deceased mother’s.

So yesterday, I was trying to open a brokerage account. I filled out the application and linked my bank account. I get an email that I’ve been identified as deceased. And I would have to provide identifying information to ‘prove that I’m alive’. The brokerage wanted a picture of my driver’s license along with a selfie. So a dead person is providing proof that she’s not dead. Do I have any legal recourse for this blunder? I have an appointment with the local Social Security field office tomorrow.
