Tenant/friend Has Dying Ex-wife Living With Her, And They Are Not Going To The Hospital. Could He Be Legally Liable For Her Death If Her Mental Health Isn’t Great?

State: Nebraska

So I have a long time friend who is currently renting one of my properties. He moved his ex-wife in to the house as well, and she is currently dying of liver failure. She is down to about 75 pounds, so we know she doesn’t have much longer.

However, they have not gone to the hospital for years. They just refuse to go and he tells me “she wants to die at home”. The thing is, every time I’m over there, she is so mentally out of it that it seems like she might not have any agency left.

Even though they are not married anymore, could he be criminally liable for her death for not taking her to the hospital, particularly because of her lack of mental clarity?

Thanks, let me know if I need to clarify anything else. First time posting here.
