Texas Facebook Marketplace Purchase Has Turned Into Class C Theft

Card image cap

I am being charged for theft <$100 but i am not 100% sure why. I was given date, time and city of crime (Sachse, Texas). That's it. Reviewing my digital history, I can see i was in this small town on that specific date, so im assuming this is what its relating to since i've been there maybe once in my life.

I was purchasing a stove off Facebook marketplace, was told by the owner to drop off cash at front door two $20 bills. I took photo of the cash at the front door, packed up the stove in my truck and thought nothing of it. Now im being forced to appear in court for theft. I'm 99% sure i left the cash there. I'm thinking it might've been blown by the wind, accidentally didnt leave it (I have Post Concussion Syndrome so memory, vision, mental issues after a semi truck accident) or maybe this isnt even related to that?

I was told this might be a scam by everyone here, so called around. My citation number is showing up on the city website, the front desk of an attorneys office confirmed the citation is real and i have verified their website, facebook, contact information all match and point to their official website.

Should i just call to schedule a court date and explain to the judge my side?

Should i speak to any officers/detective if they want to speak to me or have questions?

Or should i just lawyer up and have them build a case with what evidence i have?
