The Union Contract For My Company Requires Them To Transfer Employees Moving Out Of State. One Day Before My Last Day In The State They Said They Cancelled The Request. Union Rep Says She Can't Help.
I work(ed) for a large national retailer in Wisconsin with plans to move to Indiana. Early December I applied to a position out of state to transfer and had an interview on the 20th. I talked to our area director and he confirmed that he spoke with Indiana's area director, who confirmed that everything was in order. I never heard from her, however, so I reached out on the 23rd, the day before my last day in Wisconsin, and received an email back saying the director of sales felt the position was not necessary as it was only for the holidays (which was not in the description. The manager I interviewed with also never mentioned this.).
I spoke to our union rep, who called the VP of Indiana and was told they were eliminating the position. She said there was nothing she could do. This blind sided me and honestly everybody in our district because everything was all set two days prior. I'm now in Indiana without a job and with medical needs. I'm sure the union rep would have helped if she could have, but she said they were eliminating the position and was told they were going to remove it from job listings. However, it's still listed online and the application still allows people to fill it out. Is there anything I can do?
I'm sorry if I'm lacking clarification. Moving out of state the day after Christmas and not having a job has been mentally and physically draining.
Edit: The only reason I could think they wouldn't want to hire me is because I'm not a top performer, but that's not required in the union contract.
