Therapist Is Billing Me For Time I Did Not Think Was A Session, And Is Way Past My Financial Means
I am about 2 weeks into a difficult breakup that's made me take a deep look in the mirror to improve my relationships and self esteem. In the first week, I reached out to a former therapist to see about availability. He replied that we should meet the next day. We scheduled a phone call for 4pm. He sent over intake forms and I noticed that his rate was over 2x higher than when I had seen him before. When I asked him about it, he confirmed the rate and I told him it was out of my budget and I wouldn't bale able to see him. His reply: "I understand my regular rate is more than you are willing and able to afford. But I remember when I was in your position. Let’s make something work. You can reach me Wednesday".
We spoke Wednesday for a while, and he listened to my situation and asked questions similar to a regular session, but with no acknowledgement. After, he didn't budge on his price and now is asking for full payment for the phone call. I did not sign any forms or agree to pay - is there a tactful way for me to handle this without paying an egregious sum?
