Travel Therapy Company Made An Error That Will End Up Costing Me Thousands In Damages And Lost Wages

Hello I am looking for some guidance on what can be done from a legal standpoint.

I work in the healthcare field as an Occupational Therapist. I was recently working for a permanent full time job and then left that job on 1/2/25 to start a new travel therapy job. I interviewed for the new job on 11/18/24 and was offered the job from the placement a few days later. I was slotted to begin the new job on 1/6/24 which was agreed upon during the interview.

My recruiter that helped me get placed for this job was in charge of communicating between me and my new travel therapy job which was supposed to be 13 weeks. My recruiter even confirmed the start date and start time with me the week before my placement began as she states she had been in touch with the regional manager of the new facility I was scheduled to work at regarding this information.

I drove my wife and dog 600 miles away from our home to our new placement in Virginia and arrived on at 8am sharp as was asked of me. I arrived and the building administrator looked confused as to why I was there. She called the Director of Rehab to sort things out and I come to find out that the Director of Rehab had sent and email to my recruiting company a few weeks ago and stated they cancelled my contract weeks ago.

My recruiter said that the account manager for her company "missed the email." She was confused because the regional manager of the facility had told her when I should arrive and the dress code the week before my placement.

So this placement canceled my contract weeks ago and I was never notified due to an error on this travel companies end. Now because of that I am on the hook for an airbnb that I rented for 3 months that came to a total of $7,000 as well as lost wages and moving expenses. Factor in that I am now in a random part of a state far away from our home that has no other travel therapy options for me to try to get a job at this time.

My contract specifically stated that if I canceled or the facility cancelled that each party would have to give minimum 2 weeks notice.

Because of the error from the recruiting company I was unable to cancel the airbnb rental that I got in time for a full refund. I am also unemployed at this time as I left a permanent placement for another job that I was told was set in stone and I was good to show up for and begin. I am no unemployed because of their mistake and am missed out on lost wages. I also uprooted my wife and dog 600 miles to a state that I actually didn't even have a job in.

I was slotted to make $1950 a week for 13 weeks with guaranteed 40 hours of work. From a legal standpoint what do you think I can do? Do they legally owe me any money? I am waiting to hear back from management at the company and will provide details. Thank you for the help.
