Wedding Venue Is Closing For Renovations And Didn't Notify Us

Card image cap

Hi all. Our wedding is scheduled for May 2025 at a resort in Mexico. A week ago we found out through our wedding planner that the hotel is closing for renovations and can no longer host our wedding. They notified her on November 13th via email, and she delayed telling us until December 27th (yes, she is liable for negligence). However, we believe the Hotel is also liable/in breach of our contract because our contract has a clause that states: "Any notice hereunder shall be given to the individuals listed on the first page of this Agreement" (we were listed on the first page). Additionally, the only two parties to sign the contract are the Hotel and Us (the couple). Our wedding planner didn't sign it, so while the Hotel could argue she was our Agent and could administer on our behalf, I don't believe it absolves them of the obligation to notify us (the only other party to the contract) of such a significant event?

Any advice/thoughts?
