What Can I Do About The Man Living In My Rv?

Card image cap

Last summer my husband and I ran into a man at a dog park who was living out of his car with his dog in 100 degree weather. He asked if we had a place he could sleep for ONE night. We agreed to allow him to crash in our RV. Normally we never do this, but i believe the dog convinced me it would be fine. Long story short, it's January of the following year and he will not leave. Weve brought up moving multiple times during multiple calm, collected conversations. To no avail, he is still here. He's been struggling to keep a job, and has been living off of us at this point. My husband and I cannot continue to support him fianically. We are paying nearly double our normal electrical bill and will at some point face penalty from our landlord about his water use.

I made this clear through a conversation stating that he would need to move out in 2 months because of this.

This is the point where he flipped, progressed to name calling, yelling outside our door, shooting gunshots in the air, slamming on our front door to scare our dogs and doing burnouts in the field across from our house. He's claiming "he isn't going to leave unless we legally remove him".

I live in NC and have come to understand that there are laws stating squatters need to be evicted. The cost is far fetched for me. Is there anything else I can do legally to be rid of this man? Can I be held accountable if i just remove the RV completely? If i did evict him, is there any chance it won't cost my arm?

We have no lease agreement. He dosnt pay me anything, he was supposed to just stay a night or two, it's been close to 8 months and he's completely unwelcome and knows it. What can I do?
