Workplace Mold Exposure
I began having sinus issues Sept 2023. Assumed it was allergies. I had COVID Oct. 2023. I continued to have sinus issues. Blamed COVID. I then lost my smell/taste. Blamed COVID. I continued to become sicker. During the summer of 2024 I had some improvement. Returned to work in September and immediately became ill with worsening sinus issues. Still blamed COVID. At that point I had lost my smell/ taste for a year. I finally went to a specialist who found that I had severe sinus disease with polyps. I had surgery in Dec of 2024. I was out of work for 3 weeks. Never felt better.Started to regain smell/ taste. I returned to work and immediately became sick. Surgeon said my sinuses were as bad as before surgery. I asked for an air quality test at work. It came back for high levels- 1000-3000ppm for cladosporium in the ventilation system that ONLY services my office. I now need a 2nd procedure to address the sinus issues that were healing before I returned to work. I work in a school that suffered significan flood damage in July 2023. I was told that the school had remedied all flood damage. Administration is saying they didn't know about the mold in my vents. I feel they had an obligation to continuously assess the system bc we had significant flood damage. Upon receiving the report of mold, they cleaned my office and provided me with air quality reports that show it was remedied My life has been hell since 9/23. Illness, chronic headaches, surgery I probably didn't need and zero taste and smell since 9/23. Although the problem has been addressed, I'm still angry bc I feel there was negligence on their part bc they didn't monitor the ventilation system more than the initial inspection after the flood. Any legal recourse for the suffering? I do not have a mold allergy (had allergy testing) but mold can also be an irritant at levels that high and returning to work triggered a relapse .
