(PRESS RELEASE) BOSTON, MA — To honor its fifteen years of handcrafting the original single-ingredient Polkadog Cod Skins, in addition to Polkadog’s ongoing work with New England’s coastal communities, Polkadog is pledging 1% of their Cod Skins annual sales to support grassroots nonprofits, focusing on ocean conservation, through the 1% Planet Initiative.

Polkadog’s Original Cod Skins, the first of its kind in the USA, are the flagship example of how Polkadog advocates for the use of only the healthiest, most sustainable locally sourced ingredients. Cod skins are an extremely healthy, nutrient-rich ingredient. However, the skins were an unfortunate co-product of the fishing industry, often left to waste, until Polkadog started forming business relationships with USA-based fishing families. Many Polkadog treats are made with locally sourced co-products, but Cod Skins were the first of its kind for both Polkadog and the pet industry.

“Polkadog is a dog treat company located in Boston’s Fish Pier, and we specialize in making dog treats in our own kitchen, from USA-caught fish,” Polkadog owner, Deborah Suchman says. “We deeply appreciate our role in preserving the health of our oceans, our environment, and our coastal communities. By giving back to grassroots nonprofits through the 1% Planet Initiative, we can continue to focus on ocean conservation.”

“Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment and only 5% of that comes from businesses. The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of business members are doing vital work to increase giving and support on-the-ground action. We’re excited to welcome Polkadog to our global movement,” says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.

By contributing 1% of their annual sales, thousands of 1% for the Planet members have raised millions in funding to support environmental partners around the globe.

Partners are vetted and approved based on referrals, track record, and environmental focus. With over 5,000 environmental partners in the 1% for the Planet network, every member can find and support the causes that matter most to them.

Polkadog, Boston’s iconic pet boutique kitchen, is one of the pet industry’s most trusted pioneers of sustainable, community-based partnerships. Since 2002, Polkadog has advocated for handmade, single and limited ingredient treats sourced from co-product and upcycle USA-based partnerships. Located at Boston’s Fish Pier, Polkadog works closely with the most respected fishing companies and communities in New England.
