Wall Street Journal Knocks Trump For Leaving Former Aides Unprotected

The editorial board of The Wall Street Journal is blasting President Trump over a decision to revoke the security details from former top aides to his first administration.

"The possibility of falling out of President Trump’s good graces is an occupational hazard for good people who serve in his Administration, but this looks like a new low," the Journal wrote of Trump's move.

The president decided this week to end Secret Service protection for former national security adviser John Bolton, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Iran envoy Brian Hook, the Journal noted.

Noting the group has been under threat of death by Iran, the Journal added, "pray it won’t happen, but what if one of them now gets attacked?"

Trump explained the move this week, telling reporters at the White House, “I think there was enough time. We take a job, you take a job, you want to do a job, we’re not going to have security on people for the rest of their lives. Why should we?”

The Journal suggested in its editorial Trump is not taking ongoing threats against current and former U.S. officials seriously.

"If Iran commits violence against any of these men, Mr. Trump won’t be able to escape some responsibility," the editorial board concluded. "Also, what is Secretary of State Marco Rubio supposed to think about the boss’s refusal to protect his predecessor?"
