A new airline is coming to the U.S.
Arajet is planning to begin flights between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic this spring.
The ultra-low-cost carrier based in Santo Domingo, will begin with multiple round-trip flights weekly from Miami, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico to Santo Domingo, and Punta Cana from Miami. The airline plans to begin flights between New York and the Dominican Republic soon.
“When we were conceived as a business the first objective was to service the Dominicans in our diaspora,” Arajet CEO Victor Pacheco told USA TODAY. “We’re very excited. This is a tremendous part of our business. We are connecting the Americas, North and South, and Central America as well.”
However, Arajet is coming into a crowded market.
American, Delta, United, Southwest, JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit and Sun Country all already serve the Dominican Republic from the U.S.
Still, Pacheco said, he expects being a DR-based airline will help it stand out to its target customers in the Dominican diasproa.
Service from Miami to the Dominican Republic is set to start on April 11, and from San Juan on June 5.
One-way flights from Miami start at $100.99 on April 11. Flights from San Juan start at $83.09 one-way.
Those prices do not include checked bags, an overhead carry-on or seat selection, but Arajet sells ticket bundles with those amenities.
