Passengers Evacuate Delta Flight After Haze Was Reported Inside Aircraft

Passengers were forced to evacuate a Delta Air Lines aircraft using emergency slides on Monday morning after haze was found inside, according to the airline.
Delta Flight 876 was about 30 minutes into its journey from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Columbia Metropolitan Airport "after the crew reported possible smoke in the flightdeck," prompting the pilot to return the Boeing 717 to Atlanta, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
“The flight crew followed procedures to return to Atlanta when a haze inside the aircraft was observed after departure," a Delta spokesperson told USA TODAY.
There were 94 passengers, two pilots and three flight attendants onboard, according to the airline. No injuries were reported and the plane landed safely on the runway.
"This morning, a Delta Air Lines aircraft conducted an air-return after departure," a spokesperson for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport told USA TODAY. "Atlanta Fire Rescue assisted in the deplaning of all passengers and crew members." Airfield operations are normal, the airport added.
Passengers were transported from the runway to the terminal and will be rebooked on flights to their final destinations.
"Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologize to our customers for the experience," the airline said.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
